Gujarat government has released scholarship amount under Namo Saraswati Yojana on 22nd October 2024. Class 11th and 12th students who have opted for science stream can now check payment status online. With a provision of Rs. 250 crore, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana aims to incentivise increased enrolment in subjects related to STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics).
The Namo Laxmi and Namo Saraswati scholarship schemes are boosting school enrolment and science stream uptake in Gujarat. Both these scholarships are disbursed through a real-time attendance tracking system. Under the Namo Saraswati Scheme, a student who clears the Class 10 board examination with more than 50% marks will get total scholarship of Rs. 25,000 for next 2 years.
Namo Saraswati Scholarship amount is being given to enable students to take the science stream in Class 11-12 in affiliated schools of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB). Gujarat Namo Saraswati Yojana Status Check

Amit Shah has distributed scholarships totalling Rs. 116 crore to over 10.85 lakh students in govt/govt-aided schools across classes 9 to 12 under Namo Laxmi Yojana and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana schemes.
Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana scheme aims to promote science education. It grants Rs. 1,000 per month for 10 months in a year to students in classes 11 and 12 who have opted for science. A total amount of Rs. 20,000 over 2 years would be given to over 2,50,000 beneficiary students. The remaining Rs. 5,000 will be disbursed after they pass the Class 12 board exam. This Namo Saraswati Yojana would encourage enrolment in science streams to build a skilled technical workforce aligned with PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision for India’s expanding manufacturing sector. The ‘Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana’ would encourage students to opt for the science stream and excel in it, said the release.
Integration of 3 Schemes in Namo Saraswati Yojana
All three merit scholarship schemes are integrated under the Namo Saraswati Merit Scholarship Scheme. These are the:-
- CM Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship Scheme for Class 6 to 12 students,
- CM Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship Scheme for Class 9 to 12 students, and
- CM Vigyan Sadhana Merit Scheme for Class 11-12 Science stream students.
Eligibility Criteria under Namo Saraswati Yojna
Students who have passed class 10 and taken Science stream in class 11-12 from government and aided schools will be eligible for scholarships irrespective of family income limit. However, students of private schools will be eligible for the scholarship, based on a family income limit of Rs. 6 lakh per annum.
Impact of Namo Saraswati Yojana in Gujarat
Since launching, the Namo Laxmi scheme has led to a 6% increase in school enrolment among girls in classes 9 to 12 from 2023 to 2024. In addition to this, Namo Saraswati scheme has seen a 10% rise in students opting for science streams in classes 11 and 12. As of June 2024, Rs. 157 crore of the Rs. 1,250 crore budgeted for the Namo Laxmi scheme and Rs. 46 crore of the Rs. 250 crore set aside for the Namo Saraswati scheme have been disbursed.
Bothe Namo Laxmi and Namo Saraswati scholarships are designed to keep students engaged in education, attending regularly, and achieving strong academic outcomes. Eligible students, maintaining over 80% attendance, receive funds directly through DBT into their or their mothers’ bank accounts. Namo Saraswati Yojana in Gujarat Budget 2024-25
Finance Minister presented Gujarat Budget 2024-2025 on 2 February 2024. While delivering the budget speech, FM announced to start 2 new schemes namely Namo Saraswati and Namo Lakshmi Yojana. While “Namo Saraswati Yojana” aims to encourage students to pursue science stream education, “Namo Lakshmi Scheme” targets universal enrolment in secondary education by offering financial assistance to girls up to class 12th.
While presenting Gujarat Budget 2024-25, Finance Minister said “The 21st century is an age of science and technology in which IT and associated technologies touch all aspects of life. New opportunities are also opening up in high-value jobs in technology-related sectors, for which, Science education (STEM) is critical. To incentivise increased enrolment in STEM subjects, I propose the Namo Saraswati scheme”
FM added “Under this scholarship scheme, students enrolling in the science stream in higher secondary schools (from low and middle-income households) will be assisted with Rs. 10,000 annually while studying in class 11 and Rs. 15,000 while studying in class 12. This assistance of Rs. 25,000 over two years to students is expected to increase the number of students enrolled in science subjects from 2 lakh to 5 lakh annually over the next five years”.
