Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana in Odisha Budget 2025-26

On 17th February 2025, Finance Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has presented Odisha Budget 2025-26. While delivering the budget speech, the hon’ble FM said “Under Gopabandhu Sambadik Swasthya Bima Yojana, we are providing health insurance of Rs. 5 lakh per family per annum for working journalists working in the State and the Odisha domiciled working journalists in Delhi NCR. Besides, ex-gratia of Rs.4 lakh is also provided to the next of kins of deceased working journalists under the scheme. For this, I propose provision of Rs.14 crore for corpus of the Odisha State Working Journalists Welfare Fund”.

The web portal for Odisha Working Journalists Welfare Scheme has been rolled out to invite applications online from working journalists for enrolment under Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana. This is a health insurance scheme that covers the medical expenses of the journalists and their eligible family members. Here is the step by step process to enroll the journalists into Gopabandhu Sambadika Bima Yojana:-

  • Visit the official web portal of the Odisha Working Journalist Welfare Scheme Application at https://owjws.odisha.gov.in/
  • Click on “Registration” found on the bottom-left corner of the page.
  • Then the new page for making registration for gopabandhu sambadika swasthya bima yojana will get displayed on your screen.
  • Journalist will have to fill up the applicant details accurately along with relevant documents.
  • Upon successful form submission, application number is generated which a journalist can use for further reference.
  • The applicant will receive an SMS in respective registered mobile number regarding successful submission of application.
  • The applicant can login into the application by giving respective registered mobile number.
  • After giving mobile number, the journalist will receive an OTP on the mobile number. On successful submission of OTP, the applicant will able to login into the application and apply for financial assistance.
