Frequently Asked Questions
Ques- What is a Soil Health Card?
Ans- SHC is a report that contains the status of soil with respect to 12 parameters, namely N,P,K (Macro-nutrients); S (Secondary- nutrient); Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn, Bo (Micro – nutrients); and pH, EC, OC (Physical parameters). Based on this, the SHC also indicates fertilizer recommendations and soil amendment required for the farm.
Ques- How can a farmer use a SHC?
Ans- The card will contain an advisory based on the soil nutrient status of a farmer’s holding. It will show recommendations on dosage of different nutrients needed. Further, it will advise the farmer on the fertilizers and their quantities, he should apply, and also the soil amendments that he should undertake, so as to realize optimal yields.
Ques- Can any farmer apply for a soil health card?
Ans- Yes, any farmer can apply for a soil health card for his/her land, through District Agriculture Office.
Ques- How to apply for the scheme?
Ans- For generation of SHC, farmers should reach out to the District / State Nodal officer, if he/she want to get soil testing . Agent visits the farmer and collects farmer details, land details, and geo-tags the land through mobile app, and generates a QR code (which carries information on the farmer and land). The soil sample is taken to STL where it is tested on 12 parameters. The SHC is generated after the soil test on the portal. The SHC gives crop recommendations and fertilizer recommendations (which crop should be grown on this soil type and how much and which fertilizer is best suited).
Ques- What is the ideal time for soil sampling?
Ans- Soil Samples are taken generally after harvesting of Rabi and Kharif Crop respectively or when there is no standing crop in the field.
Ques- How will soil samples be collected from a farmer’s field?
Ans- Soil Samples will be collected by a trained person from a depth of 15-20 cm by cutting the soil in a ‘V’ shape. lt will be collected from four corners and the center of the field and mixed thoroughly and a part of this picked up as a sample. Areas with shade will be avoided. The sample chosen will be bagged and coded. lt will then be transferred to soil test laboratory for analysis
Ques- How are the recommendations arrived at?
Ans- Recommendations are based on GFR developed by State Agriculture Universities.
