Telangana government has launched Indiramma Amrutham Scheme 2025 to curb anaemia in adolescent girls. Under this scheme, the state govt. will provide millet and peanut chikkis (energy bars made with nuts and jaggery) to girls aged b/w 14 to 18 years. Telangana Indiramma Amrutham Scheme Launch Date

With an objective to prevent anaemia among adolescent girls, the Telangana state govt has decided to rollout Indiramma Amrutam scheme. This scheme will become a game-changer for girls’ health. Women & Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka has launched this scheme in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on 29th May 2025 (Thursday).

Initially, the government has started implementation of this scheme in Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Kumurambheem-Asifabad and Jayashankar-Bhupalpally districts on a pilot basis through Anganwadi centres.

Target Group of Indiramma Amrutham Scheme

  • Girls aged 14–18 years
  • Special focus on adolescent girls, who are more vulnerable to anemia due to menstruation and poor diet.

Key Components of TG Indiramma Amrutham Scheme

  • Under this scheme, the government will distribute millet and peanut chikkis (energy bars made with nuts and jaggery) to girls aged b/w 14 to 18 years.
  • Each girl will get 30 chikkis per month, in two instalments.
  • Each chikki will contain 600 calories, 18 to 20 grams of protein and micronutrients.
  • The state govt. of Telangana will also provide education on the importance of iron-rich food, menstrual hygiene, and health-seeking behavior.
  • Screening for moderate/severe anemia and referral to public health facilities would be done (if needed).

Need for Telangana Indiramma Amrutham Scheme

According to officials, the Telangana government decided to launch this Indiramma Amrutham Scheme as 64.7 per cent of adolescent girls in the state are suffering from anaemia as per the National Family Health Survey-5. “The government is already providing iron and folic acid tablets for girls after conducting Hb tests. Now, it has come out with a new scheme that will help in curbing anaemia among adolescent girls,” the officials added.

Seethakka, meanwhile, asserted that Indiramma Amrutham scheme will become a game-changer for girls’ health. “Initially, this scheme will be implemented in three districts where the prevalence of anaemia is relatively high. It will be extended to other districts in the future,” she added.
